I just spotted this:

Currently $47 with 1 day left.
The online translations certainly take some interpretation. The one I used said this lens has cloudy weather.

Thanks for the heads up.

Fungus? I seem to see some white spots at the back of the lens...

Cheers!

No, haze is what's being translated rather oddly here. But yes, it has fungus as well. The seller does not paint a pretty picture of it. He also asks potential bidders to regard it as junk (janku atsukai de onegai itashimasu); admittedly this is a rather commoner expression in Japanese auctions than you might suppose, but it doesn't bode well.

The other two lenses of this type used similar words their auctions. I couldn't be sure but it made me hesitant. It's been my experience that older camera equipment almost always needs to be serviced. Just getting shutter speeds fixed on my 65mm f8 lens was pretty expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if glass problems would drive the repair costs out of control.

And in the end: (i) I forgot the deadline, (ii) it sold for more than I'd have paid for it. Still, the price wasn't that bad: I'll have to keep an eye out for these things at Yafuoku (as it's called here). Thank you, Gargantua, and may we never bid against each other!
