Hi,
I have never heard such nonsense! What is your source?
Usually, leaf shutters are less failure prone than focal plane shutters. The Seiko 0 are very rugged and certainly won't give out after a few hundred exposures. You can find these shutters in medium format lenses made by Kowa, Bronica and Mamiya, all of which are famous professional cameras makers.
If you have problems with a Seiko leaf shutter in one of your lenses, it is quite easy to have it serviced. In the States, Ross Yerkes is known to clean, adjust and repair them.
