1) those with a fourth hand which tracks the same time as the hour and minute hand but on a 24h scale. So basically it's just a 24h hand. e.g. Rolex Explorer II
2) those where the fourth hand can be set to track a different time zone (on a 24h scale) and is infinitely adjustable. e.g. Alpha homage of the Explo II
3) those where the fourth hand can be set to track a different time zone (on a 24h scale) but when adjusted it jumps forward so that it is in the correct position in respect of the minutes that have elapsed for that hour. So, for example if it was 20 past the hour when the hand was adjusted it would jump to a third of the way between the next 2 hour markers on the 24h scale. When adjusting the hand there are therefore 24 positions it can be moved to as opposed to GMT type 2 which can be adjusted to any point on the dial. e.g. Most watches with the ETA 2893 movement.
4) those where the GMT hand is set as for type 3 but the regular hour hand can also be set independently of the minute hand (although because it tracks a 12h scale it would have 12 positions round the dial rather than 24). The benefit of this type is that the fourth hand can be set (and left) tracking the home time zone and the hour hand can be adjusted without the need to reset the minutes as well when the traveller moves between time zones. e.g. Rolex GMT-Master.

Un must !"
